Search Instructions

Please use the form below to search the documents on our web site for items that match your queries. This searches documents for specified keywords and returns a list of the documents where the keywords were found. This list is weighted so that the documents or items that most closely match the inquiry are at the top; those that match but are not exact are located towards the bottom of the list. If the document has a title it will be shown. If not, only the document’s file name is displayed. Below you will find a brief explanation of the query process.

Query Language

The search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. Examples are as follows:

information retrieval

finds documents containing 'information' or 'retrieval'

information or retrieval

this will reveal the same search results as above

information and retrieval

this search will reveal documents containing both ‘information’ and ‘retrieval’

information not retrieval

this search will reveal documents containing ‘information’ but not ‘retrieval’

(information not retrieval) and WAIS

this search will reveal documents containing ‘WAIS’ and ‘information’ but not ‘retrieval’

web*

this search will locate documents containing words starting with ‘web’

"video problem"

this search will locate documents containing the “video problems”. The words must be directly next to one another.
